Travel & Scavenging

How to move between Holo Hollow's locations, and what you can find along the way.

Holo Hollow currently has six connected locations. You can only walk between locations that are directly connected — there's no fast travel or shortcut. There is one paid ride, on a single fixed route, once you've earned it.

The local map

  • Crash Site — connects to the Abandoned Processing Yard, the DeWhat? Emergency Power Annex, The Long Scramble, and the town of Holo Hollow.
  • Abandoned Processing Yard — connects to Crash Site and the Power Annex.
  • DeWhat? Emergency Power Annex — connects to Crash Site, the Abandoned Processing Yard, and the town of Holo Hollow.
  • The Long Scramble — connects to Crash Site, The Jag, and the town of Holo Hollow. It has no work of its own; it's just the way through.
  • The Jag — only connects to The Long Scramble. There's no direct route between Crash Site and The Jag.
  • Holo Hollow — the town connects to Crash Site, the Power Annex, and The Long Scramble. There's no direct route between the town and The Jag or the Processing Yard.

Selecting and confirming a walk

Select a location on the Map to look at it, then use the separate confirmation control to actually start walking there. Each leg between two connected locations takes about 24 seconds, and your progress is safe if you refresh or lose connection partway through.

The Crew Hauler

Once you've repaired the Crew Stop for Renn Calder in Out of the Weather, the mining crews will let you ride their shift hauler out from Holo Hollow to The Jag.

It costs 5 Credits every ride — it isn't a one-time unlock that makes travel free. The ride takes about 12 seconds, where walking the same trip is two legs through The Long Scramble plus the stop in between.

It runs one way: out to The Jag only. There is room for you heading out, but the hauler comes back loaded with shale, so you walk home through The Long Scramble like everybody else. You board it at the repaired Crew Stop in town. It's a real journey, not a teleport: you arrive when it gets there. There's nothing to scavenge on the back of a hauler, so walking is still the only way to find something along the route.

Scavenging while you walk

Every ordinary walk gives you one chance to scavenge along the way. The opportunity opens at some point during the walk and stays open for a few seconds before it's gone for good — there's no way to trigger it early or get a second chance on the same leg. Riding the Crew Hauler gives you none at all.

Claiming it can turn up a little Ferrite Shale, a Power Cell or two, some Refined Ferrite, or nothing at all. It never costs you anything to try, and it never slows down or speeds up your arrival.
